The State Government announced incentives for opening
junior colleges in the remote and tribal areas by the private sector during the next academic year. To
encourage setting up of private college’s incentives like 50% off on corpus fund and land at market price
will be given. The management of the private colleges would also be provided with RS 1000 per student per
year for the next three batches. The board of intermediate had taken a decision to revise the
syllabus and textbooks for the language subjects and subject committees had been constituted for the
purpose of revision of the syllabus. Printing of books was also finalised.
As per records as many as 380 mandals, including 49 tribal
mandals, in the State did not have single government, aided or private Junior college till date.
To cover these areas, the State Government has sanctioned 378 junior colleges, new junior colleges
are in the Government sector and 239 are ‘incentive colleges’ in the Private sector. 120 colleges of those
in the Government category will start functioning on July 1st for the new academic year 2001 - 2002, along
with all the 239 institutions coming in the private sector. The remaining 20 colleges would be covered
during the 2002-03 academic year.
Out of the 120 proposed Government junior colleges this year, 28 colleges of being started in this year
will be in the backward areas with Mahabubnagar and Medak getting nine each and tribal district like
Adilabad with more colleges. Steps would be taken to ensure that these junior colleges started functioning
from July 1 onwards.
